Assessment and Performance of Flexible Quench Antenna Array Diagnostics for Superconducting Magnets

FNAL has been developing multiple versions of flexible quench antennas (flex-QA), including some specially optimized for high sensitivity and/or resolution, to characterize events and transients during current ramping in superconducting magnets. A fundamental feature our use these is the creation grid-like structures sensitive elements cover coil surfaces, with aim getting precise localization magnetic flux-change events. The flex-QA are coupled fast data-acquisition, allowing comprehensive analysis signals at relevant fine time scales. In addition arrays various types being used cryogenic testing magnets, we also utilizing a newly developed room temperature test stand better understand QA response characteristics. data from actual magnet tests, “warm” measurements, simulation on same designs allows us draw conclusions operational feasibility plan improvements sensors. this paper present tests performed results. Flex-QA compared, their features, options, optimization discussed.
